The fourth sculpture "98"
Mahogany and Maple
22"W x 14"D x 11"H
(not for sale)
With my left arm
in a cast and sling tied to my chest with only the tips of my fingers exposed,
I began to assemble the pieces of this sculpture together with only my right
hand. In the process, I was having a very hard time getting one piece of the
sculpture in place. Untying my hand I took it out of the sling placing the
pieces together.
I was struggling to get them in
the right place but I finally did! With glue dripping all over my fingers and
cast, I clamped the two pieces together. I went to pull my hand out from
underneath my vice that was holding my sculpture, but I couldn't do it. The tip
of my index finger was clamped between the c-clamp vice-grip and the wood! In a
brief moment of panic I thought "that really hurts! "
Take a look at the sculputure, I was told by doctors and
many others not to take the risk. ( I do not advise going against doctors
orders!) But this pain and possiblity of loosing my hand was well worth the
learning lesson for me. I would do it all over again. Just so I could be on
this creative journey that I'm right on this moment and time . . .
